Today I received this month's Domain Name Journal newsletter, and it made me realise something I've realised many times before: DNJournal is one of the most valuable sources for the latest domaining tips and trends.

...but you are risking a lot.

Some companies will rightly go after you in the courts if you infringe their trademark with a domain name, and yes, it IS trademark infringement even if you misspell the trademark.

For example, Miicrosoft.com would be a trademark typo that Microsoft would haul your ass into court over. Saying "Oh I didn't know typos could infringe trademarks Mr. Gates, please put that shaft down" will not protect you.

At a few bucks a pop for a new domain registration it is easy for fresh faced domainers to enter a buying frenzy, spending a lot of their money and time buying not very valuable domains.

The only thing 10,000 uniques in a month tells me for certain is that domain was visited 10,000 times in the last
month, and nothing more (surprise, surprise).

How do you research available domains? Your registrar's web site? Don't do it.
