How do you research available domains? Your registrar's web site? Don't do it. If you don't register the name immediately your registrar may give your idea to another domainer to register.

Registrars sell their whois logs on to domain tasters. The tasters could end up registering your domain name ideas themselves.

Also beware other web sites that offer services based on you entering your domain idea. For example, sites that generate similar but alternative domain names for you. These sites could be playing the same domain tasting game.

Better be safe than sorry. Assume others will not protect your intellectual property. What's the solution? Always research available domains using whois from the command line.
